Bliss@Home 3 | Tips in Creating a Home Yoga Sanctuary | A Sense of Sound

Staying Connected… Dedicating a SPACE for YOGA@HOME... Tips from Lindsay, My Butterfly Yoga.

3): A Sense of Sound, bringing the Yoga studio to your home.

It’s safe to say MUSIC DURING YOGA PRACTICE is a personal choice. 🙂

For some, music during a class helps with focus, elevates the experience, assists in coordinating movement and breathing. For others it is a stimulation overload, a distraction.

I’ve spent a lot of time exploring music in my own personal practice and have experienced all of the above from it elevating me to be a complete distraction, it is very much an ongoing area of personal study. I enjoy reading articles on this area; in yoga, music therapy and dance and chronic pain. I find myself often returning to it.

I am very conscious of the effect music can have on the mat, both positive and negative. When I guide sessions, I am conscious of ‘If’ ‘When’ and ‘Style’ of music played and I thoughtfully sequence this in, or not. 🙂

I most LIKE to USE MUSIC TO ASSIST WITH SETTING UP THE SPACE both at home and at the studio when welcoming participants. In my last post I wrote:

ORGANISATION: "I live in a snug, little flat, my yoga studio is a multipurpose space, therefore I have a short set up and set down. I have a small routine to get my space ready. It’s about the same amount of time as making a bed or completing a bowl full of washing/ drying up."

Whilst both setting up and setting down I like to play music, to create a blissful ambiance, bringing the studio to home.

🦋My Butterfly Yoga CHALLENGE🦋

1): First perform a round of Classical Surya Namaskar Asana (Sun Salutations) in time with your own breath.

2):Then choose a piece of music that resonates, to align your breath with the rhythm of the song. Complete a second round of Classical Surya Namaskar Asana.

Notice if and how your mood and energy levels shift.

If you would like to share your experience I’d love to hear how this challenge went.
